Software Tools for a Digital Life

by CV Harquail on July 11, 2009

Our first colleague contributions! Woo hoo! Scroll around and discover what's here!

Everyone has her or his favorite set of software programs to make an information-filled life easier and more fun.

200907110822.jpgObviously your computer (Mac or PC), your phone, your organization’s preferences and support (if you are lucky), and the tasks you do most often drive the software you choose. I’ve discovered, however, that both ‘who you know’ and serendipity determine a lot of the rest of the choices. Here are mine, ymmv.

Please add in the comments any tools or sites that you use that make your digital life easier and more fun. (Me, I’d like a recommendation for a good and easy password manager…)

Keep in mind that the goal is not to see who’s list is longer, but to make sure your list meets your needs.

* WordPress – my blogging software.

* Tweetdeck my desktop Twitter client (supports multiple accounts now).

* Tweetie – my Twitter client for iPhone.

* Gmail – email service.

* Picnik – photo editing software.

* Flickr – photo hosting solution.

* Delicious – social bookmarking tool.

* Google Reader – RSS reader (for reading blogs).

* Google Calendar – for calendering.

* Evernote – multi-tool of note taking/keeping (also on iPhone)

*Ecto — postwriting & editing for blog (Mac)

*Scribefire – blog editor (Firefox add-on)

* ReadItLater- online/offline desktop/iPhone page bookmarking tool. Could not live without it.

*Hasslebot – how do you think I remember to back up my blog data base?
