Okay, now that you've visited some, are you ready to comment? Contribute? We're ready ...
We’re trying to do something a bit different with the workshop’s flow, so that you can adjust your participation time to the degree of involvement that you expect to have in blogs&blogging.
The workshop is organized in three phases that will teach members how to use blogs at three levels of increasing engagement, from reading to writing to publishing ones own blog. And, the workshop includes a group blogging opportunity that will run during and after the Academy meetings.
- Phase 1 (8 am – noon) introduces the medium and the active community of management scholar blogs for those who want to read and comment on blogs effectively.
- Phase 2 (1 pm to 3 pm) teaches participants how to find their niche, to adjust their writing paradigm, and to contribute to existing blogs as writers.
- Phase 3 ( 3 pm – 6 pm) will have a smaller, limited enrollment. Phase 3 will teach the basics of creating your own blog. YOu buy a domain name, download some freeware, bring your laptop and we set you up.
Participants in Phase 1 will clarify your blog-related scholarly opportunities, your blog community, and your topical niche. You will outline a strategy for how you individually can use blogs to enhance your scholarship. Participants will leave this workshop aware of the opportunities that exist in the blogosphere for management scholars, able to identify, understand and use the major features of a blog, and understanding the array of blogs being published by management scholar colleagues.
Participants who move on to Phase 2 will learn how to establish your authorial voice and to create a presence online as a contributor to existing blogs.
Participants who commit to Phase 3 will soft-launch your own blog.
All workshop participants will be invited to participate in a group blog, InsightsToActions.com, and practice your blog reading, commenting and writing skills on this blog during the five days of the Academy of Management conference.
Those who chose to participate with have the chance to experiment with reading, posting about and commenting on topics of immediate and shared interest to all Academy members (e.g., what’s going on at the Meeting). And, as an added bonus, participants will be able to support and encourage each other face-to-face as our physical paths cross over the course of the conference. The combination of online and face-to-face interaction will accelerate learning and add to the fun.
At the end of Phase 1, we will give you a handout/pdf with all the information you need to participate in the group blogging activity.
All participants will be invited to participate in the ongoing evolution of the group-blog, InsightsToActions.com, “Linking the science of management to the art of managing” not only during the Academy meetings but also beyond. Start thinking about what you might contribute occasionally, on your own schedule, to InsightsToActions.com!
